Life Projects & Unschool
The question above is worth asking and is long overdue. We don’t just need new schools, we need to unschool. The world is dramatically changing at a rapid pace and education should be transforming with it.
But it’s not. When your child walks into the first day of school, what century of education are they entering?
We are willing to wager that it isn’t this one. In this century, we have swaths of research indicating optimal ways of teaching and learning, and yet, so few of them are being implemented.
Not at Life Project Education.
We combine leading teaching methodologies–Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Holistic Education, Project Based Learning, Oak Meadow–and curate an eclectic curriculum that focuses on optimizing the experience and education of each child.
Additionally, we have a special education program called, Life Project.
We ask our students:
“What are you love to do?”
“What do you want to become?”
Life Project Education focuses on just that: life projects. Each student receives custom attention and are asked what they’re interested in. They are given many examples to choose from or they can come up with something completely on their own (which is by far the most encouraged and common).
Then, we develop a customized program for that student so that he/she can expand their knowledge and passion in their specialized subject.
So far, projects are ranging from learning everything about the food chain, to researching the girl who is being trained to live on Mars. There is no limit, rules, or inhibitions.
Research has shown the power of self-directed learning and what it can do for the well being and education of the child. Why not foster it without limit? It is a concept that instills fear in some education systems and even parents, but after teaching it and seeing the results, we’ve seen the power it has.
We believe education should be fun and students should fall in love with learning…not grow to despise it or see it as a chore.
